Having been relegated at the end of last season the mixed team were once again playing in division four. The competition was good and often pushed us all to dig deep to get those extra points. We had a number of matches that tied on sets and games had to be carefully counted. We won and lost several matches by two or three games, quite frustrating at times! Having said that the matches were all friendly affairs which were enjoyed by those that played.

Congratulations to Peter Scarlett who was the top player of the division and also to Sharon Scarlett who came fifth but also the top lady in the division.

We look forward to next season when we hope to be able to enter a second mixed team in the league. This should prove interesting as we will all have to play in the same division, at least we won't have too far to travel!

Queen Camel v Yeovil away : Wednesday 26th July

After a slightly sticky start Sharon and Peter won their first match two sets to love while Marian and Jack, having won their first set 6 - 4, lost the next set by the same margin. This led to a Championship tie-break which went Yeovil's way.

In the second match Sharon and Peter had a welcome win two sets to love.  Jack and Marian also won by the same margin giving an overall win to Queen Camel.

The Mixed League team has had a frustrating season, winning some matches and losing others, often very closely. We had a rather troubled time with injuries when other players were on holiday! However, the general standard of play in division 3 was greater than in previous years and we often had to raise our game in order to compete. All matches were played with good sportsmanship and were very enjoyable. The after match suppers were enjoyed by all and Queen Camel always rose to that challenge - the best grub in the division. We also enjoyed good company with the opposition.

Thank you to all those who have played this year - you really have done Queen Camel Tennis Club proud.

Match ReportS 2015 : QCTC v Bridport (away)

The great escape..

It was the first league match of the new season. Bridport had come down from a higher league and Queen Camel had moved up so there was more pressure on Bridport for the win, especially playing at home.

QCTC  first pairing of Peter and Sharon Scarlett, a well proven combination, cruised to comfortable wins in both their matches. On the other hand, Marian and Roy offered token resistance in their first match going down 6-1, 6-3 and were equally unimpressive in conceding the first set of their other match 6-1. Then Marian won a service game and a bit of belief crept in. Applying some pressure on the Bridport serve took M&R to 4-0 before self doubt levelled the set at 4-4. But M&R, bit between the teeth, took the set 6-4 and carried momentum into the championship, first to 10,  tie break which was to decide the whole match. M&R were cruising at 8-4 then wobbling at 9-8 before Bridport blinked first, netting a forehand, and the match, unbelievably, was won.

Stats will show QCTC won 3 sets to 1 and 8 pts to 3 but it was so much closer than that.

Our thanks to Bridport for an excellent contest and equally good supper.
